Whistlestop Web Tour, Vol 31 – Resolutions
Today’s post at MQResource is all about New Year traditions and making resolutions. While the article focuses on popular resolutions. What I want to know is whether you make creative resolutions. Here at TCS, we are starting several new programs for 2010. Will any of them help you with your personal creative goals?
We would like to hear from you. Are you setting any creative goals for 2010? What are they? You can leave a note int he comment or if you make a blog post, add a link to your blog post below.

Again, in 2010, my #1 fiber art business resolution will be to get better at my business paperwork and books (1). This is an ongoing struggle, but it did get much better in 2009. I also resolve to open my Etsy shop (2). And finally, I resolve to get better at marketing my products (3).
Okay, now it’s in writing.
My resolution is to create an artful piece at least once a week!

I have not defined any particular New Years Resolutions, as such, but have on-going goals that tend to be long-term. One of which is to make another wholecloth quilt. I made one several years ago, which took a couple of years to hand stitch. I NEED hand quilting – it keeps me “normal.” Just this morning, the design for this wholecloth quilt came into my head and I made a quick sketch of it. It’s going to involve some hand-dyed fabrics from from Vicki. (It’s a wholecloth quilt that will have several fabrics in it, because I’m doing it medallion style so that I can use a marked piece of fabric that is more than 20 years old. (long story about that) so it really isn’t exactly a wholecloth quilt. First I need to get the exact dimentions of what I need and color swatches and then put in a custom order A.S.A.P. I have no major goals for 2010 – I’m retired and just want to spend as much time as possible in my sewing room or sitting at my quilting frame in the livingroom where I handquilt. I’m not especially interested in instant gratification, so this major quilt won’t be completed in 2010 – maybe completing it will be my goal for 2011!
In the meantime I’m very involved in machine piecing a quilt with thousands of pieces.
Short-term goal: I need to get more organized in my sewing room.
I don’t set “resolutions” because I find them counter-productive if something occurs that renders them either impossible or pointless. I have a few specific goals- a commission that needs to be completed, a week-long art retreat somewhere in the US, and scads and scads more learning to do- but beyond those, my main goal is to keep open to possibilities, get my studio remodel finished without going bananas, and play, play, play (that’s the best way to learn, IMO).

#1 priority (when I have time, LOL) is to clean up and organize my sewing room! Hopefully, that will help me be more creative and get more done. Someone came yesterday to discuss a commission. I tried to keep our discussion to the kitchen table, but when I went into the sewing room to get something, she followed me in! I was so self-conscious and kind of embarrassed. But, maybe we can say that the messy room looks more creative? She just started reading my blog, so can’t write about it there!
My resolutions :
finish what I start.
enjoying the moment be.
I don’t want to add more because I wouldn’t be able to hold the promess.
I have goals rather than resolutions. They pretty much boil down to JUST DO IT.
My goals are to really learn to use my computer programs….photoshop and eq6. I want to focus on making some portrait quilts.
I made one major goal and then a plan to meet that goal. See my blog post http://ruthsfiberphotos.blogspot.com/2009/12/happy-new-year.html
