Progress on my Block of the Month
I spent this past week having 7 wonderful days of sewing with my friend at her vacation home on the Rappahannock River in Virginia. It was our annual Craft Week. When we have Craft Week we take all of our food and usually only leave the house once or twice. The week is all about sewing and listening to audiobooks. This year was particularly fun and successful. We had 3 great books and between us we finished 7 quilt tops (they started the week in various stages of completion)! We were also blessed with incredible sunsets, like this one.
After I completed my 4 UFO quilts I pulled out my BOM quilt.
A couple of weeks ago I posted some layout options for my quilt and I asked my blog readers to vote on their favorite. There was a tie for A and B. I decided to go with option A. I was still worried that my obnoxious blocks would never make a nice quilt……but I moved on!
I got the center of the quilt done and the blocks constructed for the border. I didn’t have enough of the yellow and green hand dyed fabrics to finish it. I’ll get those dyed this week and get this top wrapped up soon. Here’s how it looks so far. I used the bright batik that I bought in February at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival to tie it all together.
What do you think? It’s looking better to me! How is your quilt coming along?
BOM #9
It’s almost time for the last prize package to be given away for the Block of the Month project here at Three Creative Studios. One week from today, midnight on June 15, is the deadline to share a photo of your finished block #9 in the forums.
Here is what a lucky winner will get:

Includes: Blended Quilt Backgrounds by Jean Biddick, Mistyfuse, hand dyed fabrics by Vicki Welsh, package of soy silk roving, 1" x 6" Omnigrid ruler, Wonderfil thread, Fray Check, sewing maching needles, handmade book/journal and a knitted/felted pouch by Terri Stegmiller.
But wait! We will have more prizes. At a later date, which will be announced soon, you will have the opportunity to win if you share a photo of your completed quilt top. We are planning on sharing some border and sashing ideas with you so that you have some ideas on ways to finish your quilt blocks from the BOM project. Watch for those finishing ideas in the next newsletter.
Bonus Block 4A
I finally was able to create the April bonus blocks from the Block of the Month project. This is bonus block 4A.
I had to adjust the color placement on this first block from what was outlined on the project sheet. I was running low on my turquoise and black fabrics and wouldn’t have been able to make the block according to the color arrangement in the directions.
Next month will be the release of block #9, the last block in the Block of the Month project. The original BOM project was for nine 12-inch blocks, but we decided to include three bonus blocks for anyone wishing to create a larger quilt or if you wanted to substitute a block for one you weren’t crazy about. After the release of the final block, we’ll share some layout options for all your blocks. Watch for the Three Creative Studios newsletter for more information.
BOM Prize Block 7
One week from today is the deadline to finish up block 7 from the Three Creative Studios Block of the Month. Share a photo of your block 7 in the forums by midnight April 15 and you’ll be eligible for the prize drawing. Here is what you could win:
